How to use the Faktorist HS Code Lookup tool

Faktorist includes a built-in HS Code Lookup tool that helps you find the correct classification for any product without leaving the platform.
Accessing the Tool
- From your dashboard, open the top navigation and click Tools → HS Code Lookup.
- You can also access it directly from the product listing or tender creation form by clicking the Find HS Code link next to the code field.
Search Methods
- Keyword search — Type a product description such as "cotton t-shirt" and browse matching headings.
- Code search — Enter a partial HS code (e.g., 6109) to drill down into sub-headings.
- Browse by chapter — Scroll through the 99 HS chapters organized by material and function.
Selecting a Code
Click on any result to see the full description, applicable duty rate ranges, and any notes. Press Use This Code to auto-fill it into your current product or tender form.
Tips for Accuracy
- Be as specific as possible when describing materials, function, and end use.
- Check the Explanatory Notes tab for WCO guidance on borderline cases.
- If your product is composite (e.g., leather upper with rubber sole), classification follows the material giving the essential character.
